Airplane! was yet another movie that I had seen bits and pieces of over the course of
my life, yet haven't actually sat down and watched it in full until just recently.
The thing is, it's a movie that I cannot do justice to with words; it's something
you have to see to fully appreciate just how amazing it is. The amount
of wit, visual humor and the sheer number of things it mocks in a manner
that nearly all so called spoof movies from the last 20 years should
take notes from in order to be even a tenth as amazing as this film is a
sight to behold.
As for the sequel... yes, the movie had a different director and different writers. Yes, they
reused jokes. Yes, they basically reused the plot. Yes, the film wasn't
as good as the original. I grant you all of that and I'm sure more; but even still, I enjoyed the movie.
I honestly do believe that the parts they reused were the best of the first film, and while it suffered from a lack of Leslie Nielsen, I still believe it shined with the inclusion of William Shatner. For all of the fifteen minutes it seemed like he was in. He may not have been the best choice, but the man can still pull off comedy pretty well.
